Question - Dec. 23, 2003 09:23:37 am
Dr. Hank. Can you explain to us 1Peter 3: 18-22. What is the Baptism that Peter is speaking of in verse 21? I was told that this is water baptism. It was being used to show that we need to be baptized, before we can be saved. Thanks, Wally
Answer
1pe 3:18 "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" 1pe 3:19 "By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;" 1pe 3:20 "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water." 1pe 3:21 "The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:" Peter is talking about the Spirit baptism that places us into the body of Christ as mentioned in I Corinthians 12:13, "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit." Verse 21 talks about the "like figure". This is the death, burial and resurrection by the Spirit of God takes us in a like figure through the baptism of the Spirit, we have been crucified, buried and resurrection because God sees us in the body of Christ.

If Satan is a spirit without a physical body, then how did he turn himself into a serpent with Eve in the Garden of Eden.
Answer
Satan is apparently able to indwell or possess a body. In the tribulation period after the rapture, Satan will indwell the antichrist. See Revelation chapter 13:1-4.

Question - Dec. 10, 2003 01:37:20 am
Can Believers, being indwelt by the Holy Spirit, actually live without committing sin?
Answer
NO! I John 1:8 says, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." The believer has a sin nature that will continue with us until death or the rapture.

What is your opinion on John Macarthur's theology?
Answer
He teaches 'Lordship Salvation'. This means that you must obey Christ as a Christian to be saved. This is 'Works for Salvation' which is wrong. To be a disciple one obeys Christ in order to achieve rewards. "There is a vast difference between coming to Jesus for salvation, and coming after Jesus for service. Coming to Christ makes one a believer, while coming after Christ makes one a disciple. All believers are not disciples. To become a believer one accepts the invitation of the Gospel. To be a disciple one obeys the challenge to a life of dedicated service and separation. Salvation comes through the sacrifice of Christ. Discipleship comes only by sacrifice of self and surrender to His call for devoted service. Salvation is free, but discipleship involves paying the price of a separated walk. Salvation can not be lost because it depends upon God's faithfulness, but discipleship can be lost because it depends upon our faithfulness." DEHAAN, M. R. Hebrews. Zondervan Publishing House, 1959.
