In Luke where the rich man is in torment, why does he ask for Lazeras to come and dip his finger in water to cool his thirst from the heat. If we are absent from the body and present with the Lord, why does it sound like he has a physical body..
Answer
This was prior to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The unsaved dead go to the heart of the earth to a place called 'hades' where they experience torment until after the 1,000 year rule of Christ and then they will be cast into hell. See Revelation 20:11-15 which says, 'And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.'

Hi Hank You have talked about heaven in the north sky and if all possible would you E-me your findings ? Thank you so much. Russ in Sarasota katnruff@aol.com
Answer
HEAVEN IN THE NORTH Where is heaven? Have you ever thought about it? Does the Bible have any clues? Whenever you ask a child, "Where is heaven?” they will usually point straight up. Twelve hours later if they were still pointing upward, they would be pointing in a totally different direction. Because the earth is turning on its axis constantly, the direction (when you point upward) is constantly changing. So then, where is heaven? Doesn't the Bible give us some more specific clues? It appears from a study of the Scriptures that heaven is located in the North in our universe. When they would offer the sacrifices in the Old Testament they would offer them northward toward the Lord. Notice what Moses said in Leviticus 1:11, "And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the Lord: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar." The implication is clear that the Lord is in the north. “Northward before the Lord,” says God's Word. North is always the same direction from this planet no matter what time of day. If you were to point to the north in the morning, twelve hours later you would still be pointing in the same direction. No matter where the earth is in its orbit about the sun, north is always the same direction in relationship to the earth. So no matter what time of day or what time of year, north is always the same direction. The Bible also implies that salvation comes from the north. In Psalms75:6 we read, "For promotion (salvation) cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south." Therefore, we conclude that salvation comes from the north since it is the only choice left. God and heaven must be located in the north of our universe. Thirty-five hundred years ago in the book of Job in the Old Testament, God gave us two amazing scientific facts in one verse. Job 26:7 says, "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing." One scientific fact is that the earth is hung in space upon nothing. History tells us that man did not know this, but what man did believe about the earth was scientifically in error. The Egyptians, for example, believed that the earth was a saucer held up by four pillars with a ring of mountains around the edge to keep the water from running off. The Greeks believed that the earth rested upon the back of Atlas. Because this theory was so popular and widespread, we still see its effects today. For example, when you obtain a book of maps it is called an Atlas. The Hindus believed that the earth was carried on an elephant's back and that the elephant was standing on a turtle swimming in a cosmic sea. Amazingly the Bible did not include any of these myths and fairy tales, but simply stated that the earth was hung upon nothing. Science cannot give us a better description than this. If you ask a scientist what holds the earth in place, he will say "gravity". If you ask him what "gravity" is, he will answer "that which holds the earth in place." Actually, they have no better answer than the one God gave us 3,500 years ago in the book of Job. Job 26:7 also says, "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place." Here is another amazing scientific fact. There is an empty place or void in the north of our universe. It was first discovered with the 200-inch telescope on Mount Palomar, California, and is now being studied by three separate observatories across the country. This empty place has been found to be so large that it could contain 2,000 milky ways. The Milky Way is 100,000 light years across. That would mean that light traveling at 186,000 miles per second would take 100,000 years to travel from one end of the Milky Way to the other. We believe that heaven is located in that void in the north of our universe. Lucifer (Satan) in his rebellion (when he tried to overthrow God) spoke of this void in the north. Isaiah 14:13 tells us, "For thou hast said in thine heart, I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the side of the north." This must refer to this empty corridor in the north where there are no stars. Heaven is said to be there. One fascinating passage is found in Psalms 48:1-2. "Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King." Without a doubt, this is a reference to the New Jerusalem and not to the earthly Jerusalem. "But you are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to our innumerable company of angels (Hebrew 12:22)." When the Bible says, "Beautiful for situation,” as the verse continues to explain, it is a reference to the fact that the city is located in the north of our universe. From "the sides of the north" God has a beautiful overview of the entire universe and of the whole earth. One day this New Jerusalem will come down from heaven to the new earth according to Revelation 21:1,2. "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth were passed sway; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." We believers have a home in heaven waiting for us in this heavenly city, the New Jerusalem. Jesus tells us, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also (John 14:2,3)." You can know for sure before you die that you will go there to live if you simply trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour. I John 5:13 says, "These things I am writing to you that you believe on the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life."

I heard 2 pastors talking about you. One was saying that he liked your teaching, but it was full of too much Grace. The other pastor said we can't get enough teaching about Grace. The original pastor said that when too much Grace is taught, there won't be any workers, and we need more workers. The original pastor doesn't seem to understand about evil. Just like I asked a Baptist pastor about receiving rewards. He told me that it depends on the attitude of your heart. I heard another pastor proclaim, that we'll receive rewards, for things done, under the filling of the Holy Spirit. This pastor was Grace Oriented. He stated that under the filling of the Spirit, we won't commit sin, and if we're not filled with the Spirit, {out of Fellowship} we can do nothing but sin. So, if a person is doing good works, out of fellowship, not under the filling of the Spirit, it is evil, even thought they're heart might be in the right place. What do you think about this? God Bless. Wally
Answer
Sounds like they are confused!!! It is 'ALL OF GRACE.' “GETTING YOUR CROWN” The word “crown” in the Old Testament is a translation of two Greek words. The two Greek words are “diadema” and “stephanos”. They are both translated in our New Testament by the same word “crown”, but their usage is different. W.E. Raffety, in the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, summarizes the uses of the crowns throughout the whole Bible as follows: “There are five uses of the crown as seen in Scripture references studied, viz. decoration, consecration, coronation, exaltation, and remuneration.” Coming back to the two Greek words for crown, “diadema” and “stephanos”, we find that “diadema”, translated in the revised version more accurately “diadem: is symbolic of sovereignty and power, and is used exclusively for denoting honor and exaltation. ‘Stephanos’ is different in appearance and not so limited in its usage. It is a garland or wreath twisted out of leaves, pine-shoots, or olive branches, or even an assorted growth of the field. A garland weaved this way made the symbol more noticeable, more intricate, and more meaningful than if it were wreathed out of plain fillet, such as gold. Figuratively this crown (stephanos) is used in Scripture largely in the realm of remuneration, as a reward for the approved Christian life and service.” The five crowns that can be earned as rewards by the Christian for faithful service are all described by the Greek word “stephanos”. The “stephanos” of rejoicing (I Thessalonians 2:19), the “stephanos” of righteousness (II Timothy 4:8), the “stephanos” of glory (I Peter 5:4), the “stephanos” of life (James 1:12), and the “stephanos” of incorruptible (I Corinthians 9:25). Salvation is received strictly as a gift from God. Eternal life in heaven is a gift, but the rewards are earned. The reward is not for being on the Foundation of Christ (I Corinthians 3:11-15), but for what is built thereon. Notice Dr. C.I. Scofield’s distinction: “Salvation is a present possession (Luke 7:50; John 3:36; 6:47), while rewards are a future attainment, to be given at the coming of the Lord (Matthew 16:27; II Timothy 4:8; Revelation 22:12).” Do not confuse salvation and rewards. They are two distinct things. Forgiveness of sins, salvation and eternal life can never be earned by any of our works. They are the undeserved, unmerited gift of God to all who definitely accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their only hope for reaching heaven (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 4:5; Titus 3:5). We can be assured that the rewards that God offers to the saved for faithful service, will be valuable, and therefore, well worth striving for with all our might. Moses esteemed the rewards “greater riches than the treasures in Egypt” (Hebrews 11:24-26). Here is a list of the five crowns: 1. THE INCORRUPTIBLE CROWN: (I Corinthians 9:25). This will be given to those who “keep under the body and bring it into subjection”, running the race faithfully. 2. THE CROWN OF REJOICING: (I Thessalonians. 2:19). This is the soul-winner’s crown. 3. THE CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS: (II Timothy 4:8). This crown will be given for those who love His appearing and who live their lives anticipating Christ’s soon return. 4. THE CROWN OF GLORY: (I Peter 5:4). This crown is for faithful teaching of the Word of God. This will be given to those instructing others in God’s Word. 5. THE CROWN OF LIFE: (Revelation 2:10). This is sometimes termed the “martyr’s crown”. It is for those who suffer for the cause of Christ. This crown, like the others, is given personally by Christ. “I will give.” In contrast to these five crowns given out by the Lord Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul makes mention of the corruptible crowns that the world (ruled by Satan) offers. Unfortunately, most people seem to make the “corruptible crown” the object of their ambitions. Worldly crowns are indeed “corruptible” and will not last. Here are some: 1. THE CROWN OF FAME: There are those that are possessed with a craving to be recognized, to be esteemed, to be influential, to be remembered. 2. THE CROWN OF WEALTH: Many are seeking after the crown of wealth and money as their chief concern in life. And we could go on and on. I suppose that the corruptible crowns could be summarized in I John 2:16-17. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.” Jesus said, “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:20).” As a believer in Jesus Christ knowing that you will go to heaven according to His promise (John 6:47), are you actively seeking after the crowns which are “incorruptible” (will never pass away). Do you consider yourself WISE AND YET ARE QUITE FOOLISH because, you are not laboring for the rewards that are eternal? Have you done anything worthy of remuneration from the Lord Jesus Christ? There is no better time than NOW to make a DECISION to start WITNESSING and LIVING for Christ. Remember, salvation is received by faith and is a present possession. Rewards are a future attainment based on your works.
